We next moved onto the hotel foyer and main staircase, the first thing we had to do was remove the existing carpet and underlay, then we had to remove the hardboard which had been nailed into the Parquet panels underneath. It took us two days to de-nail the foyer area and due to the latex used to level any areas missing the inlaid timber the lime in the latex had eaten through the majority of the Wenge inlay. We then had to remove the entire porous Wengeinlay and replace with new which all had to be milled up by hand and fitted to the floor. After this there was an area of the floor we had not exposed prior which had been repaired at some stage with pine boards, this area had to be re-made out of Oak, Walnut and Wenge to keep the design of the surrounding floor after this the floor was sanded and sealed.
